I can’t believe I saw an eclipse today! I know I’m writing this blog to teach you all about the planet and being eco-friendly, but I can make an exception to talk about cool stuff. And the eclipse is SUPER cool!
Perhaps you didn’t see the eclipse. It doesn’t affect the whole world, just a small part of it. And I was lucky enough to be in that small part! In northern Spain, it was a full eclipse. Lucky!
Here in England, it was almost a full eclipse, but not quite. It was SO cool! Since you can’t look directly at the sun, here’s a few fun ways to watch an eclipse:
Buy some special eclipse glasses. These super-weird glasses block out all the light, but since the sun’s so bright, you can still see it. Basically, you’re seeing an orangey-yellow ball against a pitch-black background.
Use a colander. You will need: a colander and a piece of paper. Hold the colander up to the sun, and look at the paper. You will see that the parts of the shadow that are usually circles of light, (the holes in the colander), are an exact mirror of the sun. Cool!
Make a cereal-box visualiser. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make one, so you’ll have to wait until I find out and write it on here.
Vocab:
Eclipse= When the sun or moon gets completely or partially covered by the other. There are 2 types of eclipse: solar eclipses and lunar eclipses.
Colander= You probably already know this, but a colander is a big metal bowl with handles, and holes in the bottom. It’s usually used to rinse out salad.
